How to Make Silk Flower Arrangements
The best way to lighten up a dark, boring room is with
flowers. But not just any flowers will do. Premium silk flowers will not
die, are allergy-free, are safe around children and animals, and are simple
to take care of. So, silk flower arrangements are the perfect thing to
decorate your home with. Silk flower arrangements look natural and fantastic
in any room in the house.
Sure, you can purchase silk flower arrangements in your local floral store
or online, but wouldn’t it be fun to create your own? Here are easy,
step-by-step instructions on how to make your own silk flower arrangements!
First of all, you need to have certain tools to create silk flower
arrangements. The tools include—
• floral tape.
• wire.
• a pair or pliers. (The pliers do not have to be heavy-duty because you
will just be bending thin wire.)
• a pair or wire cutters
• arranging foam.
• a container. (You can use a basket, a vase, or even an empty coffee can.
• a hot glue gun.
• colored ribbon of your choice.
1). Choose your flowers. A great place to shop for silk flowers is an
Internet store called Catalina Flowers at www.catalinaflowers.com. This
awesome flower shop sells individual stems and leaves at reasonable prices.
For example you can buy one sunflower for $5.95, six stems of Helicon Stalks
for $59.70, or a batch of 12 hybrid roses for $47.40. It may seem a bit
pricey, but in the case of silk flowers, you pay for quality.
If you do not have time to wait for the silk flowers to ship from an
Internet site, run to your local florist or craft store, such as Michaels.
Keep in mind that Michaels may not carry the high-quality flowers that
Catalina Flowers sells. But perhaps, you may be able to find some
natural-looking, lower-priced silk flowers there. Just look for flowers
without frayed edges and realistic colors.
So, pick and choose some silk flowers that you think look pretty together.
And do not forget to add some leaves to your silk flower arrangements.
2). Once you have your flowers and supplies, you are ready to begin your
silk flower arrangements. Take each stem and stick them in the arranging
foam. You will not have to press very hard, because the foam is made
especially for silk flower arrangements. Arrange the flowers any way you
think looks attractive. Just keep in mind that flowers do not grow perfectly
in nature. So, rough them up a little bit! Bend the stems to make the
flowers look more realistic.
3). To vary the sizes of stems, make some stems short, and make some stems
longer. To shorten the stems, use your wire cutter to cut the bottom of the
stem. To extend a stem, cut a piece of floral wire longer than the desired
length of the stem you want to become longer. Place this wire alongside the
stem and wrap the floral tape around both the wire and stem to make the stem
longer. Then, stick the stem in the foam.
4). Continue placing the stems in the foam until you have your desired look.
5). With the hot glue gun, glue a bow (with your ribbon) to the container.
Place your foam with the flowers inside the container, Viola! You have a
beautiful silk flower arrangement!
Silk flower arrangement are the perfect gifts to give loved ones on special
occasions, such as Mother’s Day, anniversaries, or Christmas. Just warn your
friends to keep the arrangement out of direct sunlight. The sun can fade the
vibrant colors. Silk flower arrangements make thoughtful presents to
brighten anyone’s day.
